Knowing the Power of Typography
What comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘typography’? Any clue? No idea? Still thinking? Well, ‘typography’ simplified is all about language – what language looks like! Got the picture? Yes, it helps words speak for themselves and it is an art that makes language visible. Creative graphic designers simply love using typography for adding emotion to communication. Every day, we come across a number of logos. Do they all look the same? No! Because each logo is designed with a specific font that is suited to that brand. Take a look into these logos.
Why is typography important? Well, it plays a crucial role in presentation by playing around with the type, but at the same time throwing up the message which otherwise might have just been viewed as a bunch of letters. The digital age has opened up typography to new generations of visual designers. Communicating a point of view with skill and imagination is what designers are setting out to achieve. In this blog, we have highlighted how and why typography is essential and why it matters the most.
It Captures Your Attention
Typography gives a font a certain uniqueness. It infuses a distinct style and personality into the font, so that they stand out. At the same time, it’s a powerful tool that effectively takes control over the meaning of the message designers wish to convey.
A well-set font design is powerful enough to capture and hold the attention of the viewers. A presentation is less likely to be forgotten if the typography was something really stunning. It’s a medium through which your company’s brand will be noticed and remembered. It’s like a permanent mark that stays there forever.
Easy To Read
A nice clean and easy read is what we all look forward to and here is where the font size makes all the difference. If the font size is small, many of us might not even give it a glance – why strain our already overstrained eyes! We wouldn’t want our contact lenses to pop out with all the straining.
The key to a powerful presentation is the correct font size, not too small that it looks like ants are crawling on the page; and not too large either as if the letters were just waiting to pounce on you. A really small font size becomes hard to read and interpret the message – no one would be sitting with a magnifying glass, pouring over words! Typography, if used correctly, projects the message in a very pleasant manner.
Information Hierarchy
We can highlight certain text by using different COLORS, FONTS, etc. Viewers read and perceive the highlighted text first. They pick up the important points from the presentation real fast.
Take for instance the title of this blog. It’s different from the rest of the blog, right? And it’s the first thing you noticed when you came to this page, isn’t it? That’s the magic of typography.
It Creates an Accord
Typography creates a perfect harmony in a presentation. A presentation gets a different look and feel when there is standard usage of the font. Fonts that are well aligned and well proportioned give a synchronized and neat look. Take a look at the image below to get an idea of what a presentation looks like when the font is in complete harmony with the text.
Typography Used Creatively
Typography has an immense power that can give a brand an exclusive persona. Clever usage of typography will do wonders for a presentation, while a clumsy one can look messy.
